Lauren & Peter’s

green & boho wedding dream

Kansas City, MO | 08.25.23

Lauren and Peter’s wedding took place in the late August heat. The wedding day was full of so much love. The way these two carried themselves throughout the day was poise and elegant, laughing it off if things didn’t go to planned. It was simply beautiful. There was this feeling buzzing all day that getting married meant a lot to Lauren and Peter. This milestone was inevitable. I first met the couple for their Love Story Session a few weeks before the wedding day…

We met at one of their favorite parks to bike ride together. It turned out to be closed around sunset which we didn’t know until we arrived, we shook it off and decided to improvise. With their picnic in hand and dog, Theo, in tow, we drove around to find a beautiful spot, racing the sun.

We eventually came around a curve that opened up to a clearing near a small lake, the golden hour sunlight pouring into the space. It was perfect.

They took their time setting out their blanket, crafting the most delicious charcuterie. Opened their wine, Theo politely waiting for a slice of salami. They danced, enjoyed their picnic, and soaked up this precious time as the beginning of forever was only a few weeks away.

Just a few weeks later, the wedding day was finally here…

The day began with Lauren and her girls getting ready at Hello Lovely in downtown Kansas City. We then headed to The Guild to put on the dress and see the finishing touches to the space.

Once everyone was ready they had special moment that I don’t see too often anymore. Lauren and Peter had chosen not to have a first look and instead have a first touch. They met on opposite sides of the door and had a quiet moment. This was it, everything was leading up to today.

While holding hands, they read their vows and exchanged gifts. Lauren gifted Peter a map with all their travels and he gave her a ginormous plant that she had been dreaming about.

Then it was finally time for the ceremomy.

Something so unique that I will never forget, was their choice of alter. They wanted to be surrounded by greenery and life. This was so very them. It fit so well into the style of the day and even more so it fit the energy these two have together, lively and lush.

Peter’s first time seeing Lauren was when she walked down the aisle. The ambience was just right. They had a group playing live string music to accompany the space. It was perfect. Their ceremony consisted of a veiling tradition in which the bride and groom are cloaked with a veil. It represents being clothed in blessings. They had their traditional vows, exchanged rings and they were married!

We then enjoyed an hour of portraits, celebrating the two of them. They had a moment with their dog Theo who wanted to join in on the fun, practiced their first dance (which they had been rehearsing for months leading up to today) and enjoyed finally getting to be together today.

The night continued into the reception. Their first dance was a showstopper. They had amazing food. Celebrated and danced the night away.
